Baynes is renowned for his intense musicality and neo-classical purity. His new production of this 19th-century masterpiece focuses on the prince’s dilemma — trapped in a repressive, militaristic court, haunted by his father’s death, drawn fatefully to the lake, falling into doomed love. As the Australian Ballet turns 50, there is no more apt celebration than to give new life to this iconic favourite.

OCTOBER
Dancehouse: Dance Territories – a curated season of international and Australian Artists.
Every two years, alternating with Dance Massive, Dancehouse will organise a thematically curated international season. This smaller-scale curated season will bring together in a shared program international guest artists and selected Australian artists.
• Dance Territories is a way of mirroring the circulation of ideas, bodies and meaning; translating methods of investigating the same territories but from different perspectives. It is a reflective attempt to explore the way different aesthetic, social, philosophical and/or economic contexts impact on creative development. It also provides audiences with the opportunity to experience the different ways in which ideas and issues are explored by both Australian and international artists.
• Dance Territories is a statement that art has no borders, that it is one of the few spaces left where creative intelligence circulates and inspires, instilling meaning in our lives.
•. A focus on a group of Swiss artists combining esthetical sobriety, minimalist movement, precise composition and the use of electronic sounds. These artists examine, with a quasi-scientific meticulousness, the relations between the body and the spirit, sound and rhythm. With Cindy Van Acker, Perrine Valli, Matthew Day...
